Snow Day Sidetrack
Due to my crazy schedule/life, I generally write my blog posts the day before they are published. I have long wanted to have a collection of blog posts at the ready for when life happens, but of course life keeps happening, so it hasn't happened. So when a snow day occurred on my usual writing day, my whole schedule got shot in the foot. In a good way. Like I got to spend quality time with the family.
Things being what they are, I have decided to take this as an opportunity to give you a glimpse into my family/life. I feel like it has been a while since I spoke about the gang, so here is how we enjoyed our snow day!
First off, the kids actually slept in, a bit. So I actually got a leisurely workout in! Score! Here is me post workout. Note the box from www.orientaltrading.com with stuff for T's 4th birthday party!
Next up, breakfast with the kiddos and some PBS kids. Curious George, Sesame Street, and Daniel Tiger are morning staples in our house. The songs distract Hailey just enough to give her the daily medicine for her hypothyroidism. Plus, both kids love the shows!
Then, we played all morning. We played with Hailey's nesting chickens, Tyler's Block Buddies, and lots of puzzles. At some point dad joined us and at another point Hailey took a quick nap. Dad also did the dishes and we discussed the last few things we still need to pick up for T's birthday party next weekend. I'm lucky to have a guy that does dishes.
Then it was time for lunch! This consisted of sandwiches and pretzels and string cheese. After lunch I set to work on filing our taxes. I figured it was as good a time as any and it felt like stolen time since I would normally be at work. Dad entertained the kiddos. When I was finally done, we all lay down for a nap. This lasted all of about 10 minutes. But boy were they glorious!!
While Hailey finished her nap alone, I whipped up some fresh baked cookies. Aka I heated up the oven and spooned out the refrigerated dough. The boys set about playing Legos.
Once we had snacked, we saw that the snow had stopped so it was time to go out and play/shovel. Tyler liked finding "snow rocks" and crushing them. We also had a very one sided snowball fight.
Once it started getting dark we headed in to warm up and have dinner. Spaghetti and meatballs. To end our snow day, we sat down as a family to watch Curious George Christmas. Tyler made the selection. This was complete with snacks and beverages.
After the kiddos went to bed, I sat through my grad school class. All in all, it was a successful snow day!
How was your day? Did you enjoy the day or were you stuck with cabin fever?
Hope you have a great weekend! Back to our regularly scheduled programming on Tuesday!
Cheers,
Emily
